Editing Vector Data
- Explain features, vertices, edges, elements, and polys
- Add a new feature:
- Click with the polygon editing tool in a scene. This will also add an element, a poly, and a vertex
- As you click to add points to the poly, additional points will be added to the edge
- Remove an existing feature:
- Select the row for the feature in the attribute table and select "remove Feature" ("remove feature?")
- Add a new element to an existing feature
- Make sure the feature is selected in the attribute table and click with the poly tool
- Remove an element from a feature
- Right click on a poly in the element and select Element->Remove"
- Add a poly(hole) to an existing element (add a hole):
- Click with the poly tool inside an existing element
- Remove a poly(hole) from an existing element:
- Right click in the poly and select "Delete"
- You can also right click on the edge of the poly for holes and select "Remove Edge". When the last edge is removed from a hole, the hole will be removed.
- Add points to an editing edge:
- Right click on the line in the edge where you would like to add the point and select "Add Point"
- Remove points from an edge:
- Click on the points so they are selected and select "Delete"
- Deleting an edge
- Right click on a point or segment of the edge and select "Remove Edge"
- Copy elements from one feature into another
- Select the element and then "Copy", select the other feature and select "Paste"
- Make an existing element into a new feature
- Copy the element to the clipboard, make sure that no features are selected, and "Paste"
- Duplicate a feature
- With the feature selected, select "Copy" and then "Paste"
